A partir d\u2019une pluralit\u00e9 de points de vue, recueillis lors d\u2019entretiens et t\u00e9moignages, il rend compte de l\u2019\u00e9volution et du fonctionnement de propri\u00e9t\u00e9s collectives fonci\u00e8res ancestrales, \u00e9galement connues sous le nom de \u00ab communaux \u00bb ou \u00ab biens communaux \u00bb. Il s\u2019int\u00e9resse en particulier \u00e0 deux de ces syst\u00e8mes singuliers et m\u00e9connus pr\u00e9sents en zone rurale, notamment en r\u00e9gion de montagne : les sections de commune et les bourgeoisies. Quels r\u00f4les ces communs fonciers en mutation jouent-ils aujourd\u2019hui \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle des territoires en mati\u00e8re de gestion des ressources naturelles, de coh\u00e9sion sociale ou de dynamiques patrimoniales ? En quoi ces syst\u00e8mes peuvent-ils participer \u00e0 une revivification originale et pertinente de la d\u00e9mocratie locale ? A rebours de l\u2019id\u00e9e re\u00e7ue selon laquelle ils seraient condamn\u00e9s dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 moderne, le changement de perception dont ils font l\u2019objet \u00e0 pr\u00e9sent les place-t-ils \u00e0 l\u2019avant-garde de la r\u00e9solution de certains probl\u00e8mes territoriaux ou climatiques du XXI\u00e8me si\u00e8cle ?
